Instructors at the Westair Flight Training
Academy are highly qualified and licensed for a wide range of
aircraft types. One of the trumps is a flight simulator for instrument
flying and simulating emergencies.
Flexible course modules are primarily aimed at more experienced
pilots. Beginners are considered only in exceptional cases and
have to make their own arrangements for the use of a plane. Of
course, pilots flying for the Academy's sister company, Westair
Wings Charters, regularly go for advanced training and testing.
The Programme
Advanced training needs to be custom-designed
to match the knowledge and skill of each pilot. Therefore the following
list is only a brief summary of the packages on offer:
Standard Training
Preparation
for annual flight tests
Practising emergency
procedures
Advanced
Training
Preparation for the
practical exam to obtain or renew the Namibian and South African
commercial pilot's licence
Preparation for the
practical exam to obtain the airline transport licence ATP)
Instrument flying
Validating of foreign
pilot’s licenses in Namibia: Introduction to Namibian aviation
laws, English, radio communication.
Examinations
The Instructors
The chief flight instructor is Francois Hugo.
The Academy has a team of three instructors, - one Grade 2 and
two Grade 3 Instructors.
The instructors are qualified for a wide range of aircraft types
- from the tiny Cessna 150, the Cessna Citation 500 to the Beechcraft
1900. Even the Eurocopter is on the training list.
The Cessna 406 static flight simulator
is the Academy's biggest asset. It was installed in March 2003
as the first of its kind on the African continent. It is invaluable
for instrument flight training, simulating emergencies and improving
pilots' responses.
